Serving as board-member of Design denmark and jury chair of Danish Design Award as well as Creative Circle he always seek to keep himself inspired and surrounded by new thinking.

Challenges and opportunities for packaging in relation to the Agenda 2030 goals

Katrin is a researcher and teacher at the Department of Design Sciences, Lund University. She holds a PhD in Packaging Logistics and a Master’s degree in Environmental Management and Policy.

Prior to her PhD studies, she has worked with life cycle assessment (LCA) in the packaging industry. Her research focuses on the question of how to develop packaging systems so that the environmental impact along the supply chain is minimized.

In her doctoral thesis, Katrin has focused on the question of how to balance different environmental requirements on food packaging.

Where did the ink go?

Sofia is working with print quality related issues at the research institute RISE. Together with her colleagues, Sofia is exploring how the interaction between paper materials, inks and printing presses affects the print. In this work they may pinpoint causes of print defects and develop testing methods that makes better predictions of print quality.

In Sofia’s presentation she will share some insights from here PhD work about uneven ink distribution in flexo printing.

Derek Awalt is a Sr. Global Partner Manager for Digimarc, a U.S. technology company considered a pioneer in watermarking technology and inventor of the Digimarc Platform.

Derek manages Digimarc’ s global partnerships and key premedia partners like hl-repro to enable packages, labels, publications and signage to carry Digimarc Barcodes. 

Before joining Digimarc in 2016, Derek worked for Kodak for over 10 years managing an array of premedia solutions.  Before Kodak, Derek worked for Scitex Europe in Waterloo Belgium having previously managed various proofing solutions for Iris Graphics.  Derek’s graphic arts career started when he was appointed director of marketing for a prominent New York City service bureau back in the late 90’s.

Ryan Vest, Global Director of Innovation at MacDermid, has been key in the development of industry-changing technologies such as LAVA® thermal plate processing and the LUX® Flat Top Dot technologies. He is widely known in the industry for his expertise in liquid photopolymer and corrugated plate technologies. Vest earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Berry College in 1995 and his Master of Science (M.S.) in Chemistry from North Carolina State University in 1998, joining MacDermid that very same year.  He and his family live near Milwaukee, WI.

Jan De Roeck leads and coordinates from the Gent – Belgium headquarters the segment marketing activities for the Esko Solutions comprising of software, hardware and services for the packaging, labels, signage and display industries.

With a general printing and pre-press education and a specialization in Graphic Design, Jan started back in 1989 with Barco as application specialist for digital image retouching. Over the past years, Jan has held different product management positions developing a particular interest and experience in software solutions and workflows for the packaging Industry. Since early 2006, Jan holds the position of Director Solutions Management.
